Oral Examination Preparation

The Oral Examination on General Seamanship is conducted by a Transport Canada Examiner and is the final step in the process to obtain a Certificate of Competency.

The oral examination is a one-on-one discussion whereby the candidate should demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge outlined in the oral examination syllabus by appropriate responses, anticipations and reactions to a range of routine, non-routine and contingency scenarios as presented by the examiner, from the perspective of the duties and responsibilities associated to the validity of the Certificate of Competency, sought by the candidate. Please refer to Transport Canada Document TP2293E for the oral examination syllabus details on a specific Certificate of Competency.

Western Maritime Institute will provide sufficient time, resources and guidance for the candidate to prepare for their particular Oral Examination on General Seamanship.
