The Western Maritime Institute Ship Construction and Stability, Level 3 Course prepares the participant to sit a Scheduled Examination conducted by Transport Canada.
The Ship Construction and Stability, Level 3 Examination consists of multiple-choice questions and Practical Calculations based on a vessel's stability data booklet.
The Examination is of Three Hours Duration and is based upon:
Understanding Stability Basic Terminology;
Understanding Transverse Stability Principles;
Practical use of Stability Data supplied to Typical Vessel's and Tugs;
Transverse Stability and Trim Calculations;
Effect of Environmental Conditions on Vessel Stability;
Knowledge of the Canadian Loadline Regulations;
Understanding Basic Construction Terminology;
Maintain Integrity of the Hull and Superstructures and Prevent Water Flooding;
Survivablity of the Vessel in case of Flooding and Damage Control;
Protection against Fires;
Vessel Inspection and Maintenance.
TRANSPORT CANADA REQUIRES THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE FOR THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY:
Master 500 Gross Tonnage, Near Coastal Certificate Program;
