Accreditation

Our certificates and courses meet the national accreditation training standards established by Transport Canada for the fishing, commercial and recreational marine industry. Provincially, we are accredited by The Private Training Institutions Branch of BC and internationally by Det Norske Veritas – Germanischer Lloyd, the international classification society. We have also been granted Education Quality Assurance of B.C. designation that allows us to enrol international students holding study permits.

Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters

This course introduces students who have little to no marine experience to all aspects of the mariner’s trade from vessel steering to signaling and flag communications. This course provides student with sufficient knowledge to make appropriate decisions in complex navigational situations including navigation emergency situations. To effectively plan, organize and manage a bridge team, to comply with the standards regarding watchkeeping and to handle the maneuver of a large vessel in confined water in a simulated environment. Also, the student will be able to effectively coordinate a search and rescue operation. At the end of the training, the student will prepare and execute a voyage plan from berth to berth using the necessary instruments and publications while assuming the duties and responsibilities of the master aboard ships having specified maneuvering characteristics.

Small Vessel Machinery Operator (SVMO)

The SVOP provides basic theoretic knowledge to those with specified practical skills and experience in small commercial power-driven vessels less than 5 gross tonnage or fishing vessels less than 15 gross tonnage. In addition to the SVOP Certificate, vessel operator must also hold valid MED, ROC and Marine Basic First Aid certificates.

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institution Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, PTIB did not review this course.

Supervision of an Oil Transfer Operation (Parts A & B)

Part A is designed for seafarers who are newly involved with the supervision of oil transfers within the marine industry. This certificate is valid for 30 months, during which time the student is required to acquire three months of operational and supervised industry experience (Part B) in preparation of Part C of the certification.

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institution Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, PTIB did not review this course.

Pre-requisites: MED Basic Safety , Restricted Operator Certificate – Marine Commercial; valid Seafarer’s Medical; signed WMI waiver.

Supervision of an Oil Transfer Operation (Part C)

SOTO – Part C is designed for existing certified personnel serving in the industry and new seafarers who have successfully completed Parts A and B. Topics covered in Part A and C include personal safety and health hazards, properties of hydrocarbons and fire hazards, pipeline layout and theory etc.

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institution Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, PTIB did not review this course.
